Teaching

Registrars

We usually have one or more doctors working with us who are gaining additional experience in general practice. You are able to make an appointment with them as with any of the other doctors.

Medical Students

We are a teaching practice and occasionally have medical students from the University of Leeds sitting in on surgeries and clinics. They gain valuable learning by sitting in during consultations but if you wish to see the doctor alone please tell the receptionist or doctor. A sign on the reception desk will inform you when a doctor has a medical student sitting in with them.

GP Earnings

From April 2016 all GP practices are required to declare the mean earnings (e.g. average pay) for GPs working to deliver NHS services to patients. The average pay for GPs working at Ireland Wood and Horsforth Medical Practice in the last financial year 2015/2016 was £71,293 before tax and national insurance. This is for 9 full-time GPs and 6 part-time GPs who worked at the practice for more than 6 months.

*** NHS England require that the net earnings of doctors engaged in the practice are publicised, and the required disclosure is shown above. However it should be noted that the prescribed method for calculating earnings is potentially misleading because it takes no account of how much time doctors spend working in the practice, and should not be used to form any judgement about GP earnings, nor to make any comparison with any other practice
