The doctor may order some tests to help him/her make a diagnosis or monitor treatment.
If the doctor wants you to have a blood test, go to the front reception desk straight away to make an appointment. This will normally be with the Health Care Assistant or occasionally the practice nurse. Sometimes you will need to come “fasted” which means having no food from 9pm the previous evening.
The doctor may order a number of other types of test e.g. urine (wee), stool (poo), swabs, E.C.G. etc. Some of these will need you to make an appointment with either the Health Care Assistant or practice nurse. The doctor will give you any necessary specimen containers and tell you how you will get the results.
